  • Safeguarding

The Elms Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

At The Elms Primary School, the health and safety of all children is of paramount importance. Parents send their children to school each day with the expectation that school provides a safe, secure environment in which their children can flourish. In order to achieve this, a wide range of measures are in place.

We ensure that safeguarding permeates all aspects of our school life. There can be no issue of greater importance to our staff, governors and parents and carers, than the safety of our children. We ensure that the following underpins everything we do:

    • Protect our children and learners from maltreatment
    • Prevent impairment of our children’s and learners’ health or development
    • Ensure that our children and learners are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
    • Undertake a role so as to enable those children and learners to have optimum life chances and to enter adulthood successfully.

    Operation Encompass:

Operation Encompass is a national police and education early intervention safeguarding partnership which supports children and young people who experience Domestic Violence and Abuse and which is in place in every police force in England and Wales.

Children were recognised as victims of domestic abuse in their own right in the 2021 Domestic Abuse Act.

Operation Encompass means that the police will share information with our school about all police attended Domestic Abuse incidents which involve any of our children PRIOR to the start of the next school day.

Once a Key Adult (DSL) has attended either an Operation Encompass briefing or completed the online Operation Encompass Key Adult training they will cascade the principles of Operation Encompass to all other school staff and Governors. All schools staff and Governors can undertake the online training.
